Joey De Francesco put the listeners of WBGO’s Morning Jazz in the center of his musical universe, stopping in to play organ and Fender Rhodes (and trumpet!), with Troy Roberts on saxophone and bass and Ralph Peterson, Jr. on drums.

López-Nussa teamed with director Leandro de la Rosa to add a striking new visual element to his hit song Cimarrón from his recent album Un Día Cualquiera, released in June 2018 on Mack Avenue Records. The video shows López-Nussa amid a barrage of avant-garde images, including references to the green-apple-obscured man in the bowler hat in René Magritte’s famous painting The Son of Man. The video, said a press statement, was designed to “juxtapose the duality of physically escaping from one’s captor, and mentally escaping into one’s own fantasies.”

“I played it totally different then. It was almost an Irish fiddle tune. I liked it, but I knew that it wouldn’t be appropriate for what we were doing. I decided to add lyrics to it, give it a bridge and give it more of a Western swing vibe.”
